RIGHT TO BE FORGOTTEN

Last updated: 14th November 2025

At Solomon Solicitors, we respect your privacy and are committed to upholding your rights under UK data protection laws, including the right to request the erasure of your personal data. This page explains your “Right to Be Forgotten” and how you can exercise this right.

What Is the Right to Be Forgotten?

The Right to Be Forgotten, set out in the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), allows you to request the deletion of your personal data in certain circumstances, including where:

  • The data is no longer necessary for the purposes for which it was collected or processed.

  • You withdraw your consent (where consent was the lawful basis) and no other lawful basis remains.

  • You object to processing and there are no overriding legitimate grounds for us to continue.

  • Your personal data has been unlawfully processed.

  • The data must be erased to comply with a legal obligation.

How We Handle Your Data

Solomon Solicitors collects and processes personal data in order to:

  • Provide legal services.

  • Comply with statutory and regulatory obligations.

  • Market our services.

  • Protect the firm against potential legal claims.

Our standard retention period is six years from the conclusion of a legal matter or from the date the data was collected, whichever is applicable.
If you exercise your right to erasure, we will assess whether your data can be deleted while still meeting our legal and professional obligations.

1. Submit Your Request

You may make an erasure request by contacting us at:

Please include:

  • Your full name

2. Verification Process

To protect your personal information, we must verify your identity before processing your request.
We may ask for a copy of a valid identification document (e.g., passport or driving licence).
Any identification documents provided for verification will be securely destroyed once the verification process is complete.

3. Processing Your Request

Upon verifying your identity, we will:

  • Acknowledge receipt of your request within one month.

  • Assess whether your data can be erased while complying with our legal and regulatory duties.

  • Notify you of the outcome and explain any limitations or exemptions that apply.

Limitations to Data Erasure

Your Right to Be Forgotten is subject to legal and professional obligations. We may be unable to delete your data where erasure would conflict with:

  • Compliance with legal or regulatory obligations (e.g., anti-money-laundering and record-keeping duties).

  • The need to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

  • Professional obligations of confidentiality.

Where full erasure is not possible, we will explain the reasons and may offer alternative options, such as restricting the processing of your data.
